Dr Christine Friedenreich is the Scientific Director for the Department of Cancer Epidemiology and Prevention Research, Cancer Control Alberta, Alberta Health Services and an Adjunct Professor and Division Head for Preventive Oncology. She is also an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Community Health Sciences, Cumming School of Medicine and the Faculty of Kinesiology, University of Calgary. She is currently also the Associate Scientific Director for the O’Brien Institute of Public Health at the University of Calgary. Dr Friedenreich is a cancer epidemiologist who has dedicated her career to understanding the role of physical activity in cancer risk and survival. She has conducted numerous large scale observational epidemiologic studies and randomized controlled intervention trials. Dr Friedenreich is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences. She was awarded the O. Harold Warwick Prize from the Canadian Cancer Society for her research in cancer control and has held a position of Visiting Senior Scientist at the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) in Lyon, France. Most recently, she was the Canadian representative on the Scientific Council for IARC and the Chair of this Council for 2019-2021.
