Alberta Cancer Outcomes Research Network

The Alberta Cancer Outcomes Research Network (ACORN) was founded in 2017 by Dr. Winson Cheung. It was created to serve as a cancer health services research network to foster collaboration and innovation among oncology clinicians, researchers, and representatives at Cancer Control Alberta from across the province. At present, there are over 30 members in ACORN from various cancer-related disciplines and training backgrounds who aim to meet quarterly to discuss research ideas, prioritize strategic directions, and offer support for trainees and junior faculty interested in pursuing health outcomes research. The main vision of ACORN is to build a community of researchers with a shared passion for using data to answer important clinical questions. By connecting like-minded researchers together, ACORN members have already received many accolades, including large research grants, high profile publications, and impactful projects that are directly improving cancer care for patients in Alberta.

Oncology Outcomes (O2) was developed in 2019 by Dr. Winson Cheung to champion cancer real-world evidence generation with the use of advanced analytics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and natural language processing of real-world data sources. The team consists of senior researchers, epidemiologists, biostatisticians, and computer engineers who are trained to work in the increasingly complex world of data sciences. The number and size of datasets are growing exponentially. They include a mix of demographic, disease, treatment, outcome, and biomarker data. O2 has cultivated a diverse group of individuals with significant expertise in distilling and translating these data into meaningful and interpretable results that accelerate the transformation of clinical practice and policy. O2 welcomes partnerships with industry and non-industry collaborators to conduct high quality projects that support the stakeholder’s real-world evidence needs. To date, O2 members have produced a prolific track record of over 300 peer-reviewed publications. For more information, please visit https://oncoutcomes.com/
