Biography

Dr. Lewis completed his medical training at the King Edward Medical College in Pakistan. Subsequently, he trained at the University of Minnesota’s Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology programs. He holds a dual appointment within the Department of Pediatrics and Department of Pediatric Oncology. He served as the Transplant and Cellular Therapy lead for the program at Alberta Children’s hospital from 2002 till 2022 and as the Section Head for Pediatric Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant from 2015 till 2022.

His primary interest is treatment of leukemia and lymphoma in children, as well as cellular therapy for treatment of such disorders. His research interests include prevention of graft-versus-host disease, using genetics of NK cells to choose the most optimal stem cell donors and development of novel treatments in the cellular therapy domain. Dr. Lewis leads the pediatric Chimeric Antigen Receptor – T cell therapy initiative at the Alberta Children’s Hospital and participates in and has received funding for various projects involving development of novel cellular therapy modalities for clinical translation while working closely with the Riddell Centre for Immune Therapy. He is the Alberta Children’s Hospital’ local Principal Investigator for the Children’s Oncology Group and the local clinical lead for PROFYLE (Precision Oncology for Young People), a platform for precision medicine availability in children, adolescents, and young adults.
