Biography

Dr. Sharma graduated from the University of Saskatchewan Medical School prior to pursuing his residency training in Radiation Oncology at the University of Manitoba. He then completed the combined research/clinical Nancy K. Welker Fellowship in Advanced Radiation Modalities (proton radiotherapy, hyperthermia and GammaPod) at the University of Maryland in Baltimore where he served as a Visiting Instructor.

He worked as a staff Radiation Oncologist at Methodist University, Baptist Memorial and Saint Francis (Bartlett) Hospitals in Memphis, Tennessee where he specialized in treating GU, GI and Breast cancers with a secondary and research focus on SBRT/SABR and MRI guided radiotherapy.  While there, he established a prostate SBRT program. He also served as Associate Director of the Radiation Oncology Residency Program at the University of Tennessee where he was an Assistant Professor.

Dr. Sharma has completed a Master’s Degree in Public Health from the Harvard University, T.H Chan School of Public Health.

He currently works as a Radiation Oncologist at the Central Alberta Cancer Centre in Red Deer, where he treats GU, GI and thoracic malignancies, with secondary focus on palliative radiotherapy, SBRT/SABR and sarcoma. He established Alberta’s second prostate SBRT/SABR program in March of 2022 and also serves as Chairman of the Central Alberta Cancer Centre GI Disease Site Group.
