Amir Surmawala, MD, CCFP(PC), FRCPC
Dr. Amir Surmawala is a Consultant Palliative Care Physician at the University of Calgary. He completed his medical degree at the University of Alberta, followed by residency training in Family Medicine and fellowship training in Palliative Medicine at the University of Ottawa.
He serves as Provincial Medical Informatics Lead for Medicine with Health Shared Services Alberta and as Quality Improvement Lead for the Division of Palliative Medicine at the University of Calgary. He is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Health Care Quality and Safety (MHQS) through Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Surmawala’s academic and clinical interests include health informatics and systems design, health care quality and safety, and compassion and dignity in health care.
