Dr. Safiya Karim, MD, MSc, is a medical oncologist and RWE researcher who is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Oncology at the University of Calgary. Prior to her recruitment, she completed a successful health outcomes research fellowship under the mentorship of several prolific real-world data scientists at Queen’s University. She has been a key member of the Alberta Cancer Outcomes Research Network (ACORN) through which she has conducted and published a number of high profile RWE studies. Her past research is diverse and includes work that has examined treatment patterns and outcomes for different cancers. Her findings illustrate how RWE can be used to inform input parameters for economic models and potentially support access to and reimbursement of novel drugs.
