Biography

Dr. Bisch completed his Bachelor of Medical Sciences in Microbiology and Immunology (Honours with Distinction) at Western University in 2008. He completed medical school at the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry at Western University in 2012 and subsequently completed his Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency at Western University in 2017. After completing residency he completed a fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at the University of Calgary while simultaneously completing a Masters in Public Health in Clinical Effectiveness at Harvard University in 2020.

After briefly working in a locum role at The Ottawa Hospital and The Saskatchewan Cancer Agency he was proud to join the Division of Gynecologic Oncology at the University of Calgary with cross-appointment to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Department of Oncology. He is actively involved with clinical trials research, perioperative quality improvement research, and wellness research with the aid of his facility dog, Martin. Dr. Bisch is proud to contribute to the training of Obstetrics and Gynecology Residents, Gynecologic Oncology Fellows, Medical Oncology Residents as well as medical students from the University of Calgary in his role of Assistant Clinical Professor.

He enjoys balancing his time at work with spending time with his growing family.

Perioperative care and quality improvement research, with a focus on Enhanced Recovery After Surgery.

Summary of Research

Dr. Bisch has a passion for improving perioperative, and oncologic outcomes for patients. His work with Enhanced Recovery After Surgery has advanced the science of perioperative care and influenced practice globally. He has published several outcome studies on perioperative care including a meta-analysis on ERAS outcomes in Gynecologic Oncology that have become widely cited and influenced guidelines. He has also been a co-author on several guidelines in Gynecologic Oncology Surgical care. He aims to advance the care of oncologic patients through trials development. He has designed randomized controlled trials as well as acted as local PI for several investigational drug trials in gynecologic oncology.
