Biography

Dr Savraj Grewal obtained his BSc in Pharmacology from Kings College London, UK in 1992. He obtained his PhD in Cell and Developmental Biology from Oregon Health Sciences University, Portland, Oregon in 2001. He then carried out postdoctoral research at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Dr Grewal joined the faculty at the University of Calgary in 2007.

Summary of Research

Our work focuses on the control of protein synthesis. Abnormal protein synthesis is often seen in cancer cells, and may contribute to the runaway growth characteristic of the disease. Using fruit fly genetics, we identify the genes that regulate protein synthesis, and we examine how these genes control growth.
