Biography

Dr. Lee-Ying is a Medical Oncologist at the Arthur Child Cancer Centre, as well as a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Calgary. His clinical focus is on the treatment of gastrointestinal and genitourinary cancers, and he has been the Southern Alberta Gastrointestinal Tumour Group Leader since 2019 and Deputy Clinic Head, Department of Oncology at the Arthur Child Cancer Centre since 2026. He completed medical school and Medical Oncology residency at the University of Calgary, Internal Medicine residency at the University of Saskatchewan, a Gastro-Intestinal Medical Oncology clinical research fellowship at the BC Cancer Agency, and a Masters in Public Health through the Harvard School of Public Health.

His primary research expertise is in comparative effectiveness, using real world data to try and inform practice, and fill knowledge gaps that clinical trials do not necessarily address. He also has an interest in decision-analysis and cost-effectiveness. He has been an active or lead member of several provincial, national and international database-driven research initiatives. Through research, he hopes to optimize the use of existing and emerging cancer therapies to maximize patient outcomes.
