Dr. Nordal has broad experience in oncology in Canada and several regions in the US. A native of Western Canada, Dr. Nordal completed undergraduate and graduate education in sciences and medicine at McGill University, the University of Alberta, and the University of Toronto. He completed residency training and fellowship training in radiation oncology at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, and the Princess Margaret Hospital in Ontario. He completed graduate training in medical biophysics at the Ontario Cancer Institute/University of Toronto, and training in medical education at Memorial University of Newfoundland.

Dr. Nordal is active in clinical trial work and other research aimed at better understanding of radiosurgery and stereotactic radiotherapy for brain and other tumors in adults and children. His interests include development and application of targeted radiation treatments, exploration of combined radiation and drug therapy for primary and metastatic tumors including brain metastases, and molecular understanding of radiation responses in tumors and normal tissues.
Dr. Nordal is active in medical teaching in central nervous system and breast cancers, and in pediatric radiation oncology.
