Melissa Shea-Budgell is the Associate Director (Strategy and Partnerships) with the Arnie Charbonneau Cancer Institute, where she supports the development and implementation of the cancer research strategy for Calgary. She is a research methodologist by training and holds a Master of Business Administration from the Haskayne School of Business and a Master of Science from Simmons University in Boston. She is an adjunct assistant professor with the Department of Oncology, Division of Preventive Oncology, and has nearly two decades of cancer research experience, both in the university setting and within the health system. Melissa’s current research projects focus on the development and implementation of primary and secondary cancer prevention strategies within a variety of populations, including vulnerable populations. Melissa is also interested in health services research and understanding factors that influence cancer care delivery. With a focus on prescriptive and predictive analytics, she hopes to apply some of the skills she has acquired through her MBA to today’s challenges facing the health system. She is particularly interested in health care access and system efficiency, given the growing number of patients with cancer resulting from our aging population.
