Dr. Jackson Wu is a radiation oncologist. He completed undergraduate medical and residency training at University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver in 1998, after which he received training as a clinical fellow at the Princess Margaret Hospital, University of Toronto, until 2000 when he became consultant radiation oncologist at the Hamilton Regional Cancer Centre in Hamilton, Ontario. He moved to Calgary in 2002 to continue his career in the Division of Radiation Oncology at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, where he participated in and conducted clinical trial projects in the treatment of prostate cancer and metastatic bone pain, and served on committees related to oncology education and research administration.
Career highlights include serving as a Royal College examiner in radiation oncology (2005-2009), as a grant reviewer in CIHR Randomized Controlled Trials Committee (2014-2020), as a departmental liaison with the Calgary Zone Medical Assistance in Dying Care Coordination Service (2017-2020), and as a vice chair on the Health Research Ethics Board of Alberta Cancer Committee (2014-ongoing). Life-changing experiences include a midcareer leave-of-absence for an immersive year of studies at the University of Toronto towards a master degree in clinical epidemiology (biostatistics and research methods). His favorite quote is: “Science is the belief in the ignorance of experts.” (Richard Feynman).
Main hobby is music appreciation through high resolution stereo playback systems. He is married to a full time obstetrician-gynecologist.
